Our Lebanese Dinner

Our Holiday house guests were nice enough to make a Lebanese appetizer for us. They wanted to make a common soup but we couldn't find the right leaves at our specialty store. Instead they made a common appetizer called fateh. I am not sure how I do it but all the pictures are out of order.

Our exchange students, kindly referred to as "the girls" were proud that they actually made this. Both admitted they have never cooked before, but had watched this put together and we had the guidance of an early morning phone call to Lebanon for exact instructions.

R loved standing on the stool watching crush garlic and do other prep work for the fateh. The girls loved him, and the feeling was mutual.
L copied Mom and spent her time watching what the girls were doing and writing down the recipe. Hopefully L will remember what she wrote and be able to help me make fateh for our next party.

The boiling hummus (garbanzo beans in English) with a tad of butter and cinnamon and a whole lot of garlic and salt.

Getting ready to fry the Arab bread (Pita Pockets in English). This step was a bit scary as this was the point we learned they had never cooked or fried anything before. We had some very delicious pita chips from the process but also some very black ones and were happy the house did not burn down.
All is all we had a great appetizer to eat, lots of laughs, and a break from the routine.
