A's First Bike Race

A had his first bike race Sunday. I sent him to the 3-4 start line with Dad and we sat watching the super cute little ones on training wheels ride a block to the finish line. L and I never saw A though. We waited and waited and then we heard the 5-6 race begin which was a lot longer and up a huge hill. After the 5-6's came up the hill a bit we noticed little A pedaling with all his might with Dad running besides him. A finished the race dead last but made it all the way to the finish line, which was a long uphill battle for a tiny legged boy on training wheels.

After the race, he got his prize for finishing. I asked how he did and he told me he finished first in the first race and then everyone beat him in the second. He was not disappointed at all but we keep telling him how proud we are that he completed the hill race and won the first one.

You are probably thinking what was the first race? The first race was an imaginary race to the start line. A was supposed to be following the woman in the green shirt to the 3-4 start line but A told us "she was going too slow" so he sped past her and raced with all his might to the 5-6 start line. He is a natural descender and Dad couldn't stop him soon enough to stay with his age group. He sped down the hill, beating all the 5-6's and waited patiently for the race to begin. Since the 5-6's race was so much longer than the 3-4's, there was not enough time to get A back to his correct start so Dad waited with him and they raced the big kid race.

Was the 5-6 race enough for little A? No, he wants to race even bigger kids next time. He can't wait to compete in his next race. I told him I wanted to keep his number (for the scrapbook of course) and he told me he needed it for his next race. He was hard to part with it even after we told him they give out new numbers at each race.

Once we return from our long family visiting vacation we hope to let him race again. I am not sure we can keep him from racing at this point.
