Our dear sweet Lillian can't wait to turn 5 in December, on the 11th to be exact. She is smart as a whip and not afraid to tell us. She reads sight words, adds numbers together, draws elaborate pictures with many details, writes perfect letters and knows letter sounds enough to sound out and write her own words. She talks constantly to us or he imaginary friends. She makes up elaborate stories to continue books she has read, makes up her own stories, or just asks over and over when all of her grandparents are coming to visit because "it has been forever since anyone has visited!" She ropes Ry and Sue into playing school with her most mornings so she can teach them before she heads to her favorite place on earth, preschool.
She is a craft queen and can make just about anything with enough tape and paper. He new thing is to make books so she cuts out paper to the size she wants and uses her staple-less stapler to hook the edges together. She is very independent in her craft projects. She also loves to make crowns and necklaces, like any true princess. We went to the fabric store this past weekend and she spent her own money to buy jewels, beads, and elastic cord (all 70% off due to her mother's frugal influence-she would have used coupons as well if she had cut any out that day). We came home and she drew a crown outline on cardboard, I cut it out, then she glued the back strap on. The next day we painted it. She chose 3 colors, purple, silver, and yellow and even though she "only used a little so I don't drip" she figured out how to mix them on the plate to make a shimmery purple or brown. After the crown dried she was able to glue on her jewels. I used the glue gun putting dots where she asked but the design was all he own. She did an excellent job with it.
Since Grandpa taught her to ride her bike without training wheels in Iowa we took the extra wheels off her bike this July. She rode in her first bike race of the season and got 3rd place, on two wheels even. She has now built up enough strength to ride her bike to school, in the bike lane since she won't ride on the sidewalk, all the way at the top of the hill. I ride next to or behind her pulling the babies and she beats us every time. She rides her bike slowly downhill but really cruises downhill on her scooter. She is a scooter pro and can turn quick circles, jump, and do other fine tricks on it.
Lilly wears headbands or crowns everyday to keep her hair out of her face. Ever since her haircut this summer she is able to brush her own hair using her purple brush or the princess one only. She keeps her hair accessories in a caboodle on her dresser and has a new found love for organization. She straightens her dresser daily and can't stand to have a messy room. We set the timer for 2 minutes some mornings while the babies nap and speed clean her room to keep it to her standards. I wish she kept her art cabinet as clean as her room needs to be.
Over the summer she took "cooking lessons" from our neighbor and she has taught me alot while helping me bake. She understands how to "cut in butter", when to use a spoon or whisk, how to mix wet ingredients into dry, and the importance of a cooling rack. I am truly amazed at how much she picked up from our neighbor Debbie.
Lilly still loves shoes and wears a skirt or dress most days. Today it is a gold glitter skirt with purple funky looking tights and a white T-shirt with a caterpillar saying "I need more shoes...". The perfect Lilly outfit. She has been able to get dressed alone for 3+ years now but most mornings needs an extra nudge to actually do it. She picks out her clothes/shoes no matter what and we have to adjust them according to the weather.
