Trick or Treat

We went to a local assisted living facility to Trick or Treat this year. The residents were lined up in their wheelchairs in the hallway handing out candy to the little munchkins. Basically, you got candy for every step you took for about 30 minutes so we now have more candy than Willy Wonka. We got so many comments on how cute our little Lion and Fairy were. The residents were shocked when I told them that Grandma made the costumes. That shows how beautiful their little costumes were.

Our Fairy Princess learned quickly how to say "Trick Treat" and "Dank You" to everyone and how to hold the bucket up high so the residents could get the candy into it. When we would try to dump her bucket into a bag so it would be lighter, and have more room, she would pitch a fit and say "mine". I managed to get some out a little at a time without her knowing but it took great skill to dip into the bucket undetected. The lion was a little shy but played ring-toss like a champ and won a plastic compass, which he believes is for telling time. He got tons of candy from the residents and was very polite. Our sunflower neighbor was with us so that kept our little lion busy as well.

After we had more candy than we could carry we headed back to the neighborhood where we had neighbors waiting to see the cute children in their costumes. The little sunflower next door went house to house with us as well. We only went to four houses since it was super cold out and their little hands were freezing. It was hard for them to wear gloves and carry the bucket so we let their hands freeze. Bad parents! The children were a little shy at the first house but as they ran, and I mean ran, to the second house with a light on Daddy reminded our lion that he needed to say something when the door opened. As the door opened our lion shouts out, "We came for your candy!" We were all laughing too hard to correct him but he got the point across because they got a bunch more candy. The last two houses all three treaters said "trick or treat" and then sadly went into their own warm houses.

We sat around the table as a family waiting desperately for trick or treaters to ring our bell but no one came until after the children were in bed. While we waited we sorted out all the candy. A did a wonderful job of organizing by color and size while L group similar items together for a while then just wanted to push all the candy around the table.

It was a fun Halloween! Last year I worked during the trick or treating so I didn't get to see the children out in the neighborhood collecting candy. A really got into it this year which was fun to watch. He is growing up so quickly!
